IPC Journal Club in partnership with the Healthcare Infection Society: "MRSA – The enduring foe"
Aired on 11 June 2025
MRSA has been with us for six decades now, and during this time our understanding of MRSA has expanded significantly. But there’s always more to learn!
The Healthcare Infection Society have recently published a new special issue across the Journal of Hospital Infection and Infection Prevention in Practice called “MRSA: The enduring foe”. Based on this special issue, this IPC Journal Club in partnership with the Healthcare Infection Society was chaired by Dr Siobháin Kelly, who edited the special issue, and discussed two papers from this special issue. The first, from Infection Prevention in Practice and led by Dr Phil Norville, will discuss MRSA (and vancomycin-resistant S. aureus!) from patients with wound infection in East Wallaga Zone, Western Ethiopia. The second, from the Journal of Hospital Infection was led by Dr Jon Otter and covered the impact of universal MRSA admission screening in a hospital with high prevalence of MRSA in Malta. Dr Siobháin Kelly then facilitated a really engaging Q&A from the audience.
This Journal Club is hosted by IPC Partners in partnership with the Healthcare Infection Society. IPC Partners is a collaborative of experts providing independent IPC advice to healthcare providers and corporate partners. The Healthcare Infection Society represents a broad membership of experts in the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections, and aims to advance knowledge, foster scientific interest and share information about the field.
