Infection Prevention in Practice - launching 2019

We are pleased to announce the upcoming launch of Infection Prevention in Practice (IPIP), the new online open access journal from the Healthcare Infection Society. The new journal will be published in collaboration with Elsevier.

Aims

The aim of IPIP is to provide a comprehensive, fully open access resource for all those working in the field of infection and infectious disease prevention and treatment worldwide.

In accordance with the charitable aims of the Healthcare Infection Society, this fully open access online journal will maximise the discoverability of latest research related to all aspects of infection.  Fair article processing charges ensure publication in IPIP is also increasingly accessible to those authors (irrespective of funding) who wish to publish in a high quality, independently peer-reviewed journal.

Scope

IPIP welcomes high quality articles (in the form of local research studies, experiences, case reports, novel techniques, best practice and outbreak reports) in the field of infection prevention and control, that will influence clinical best practice and reduce the global burden of infection in healthcare. Research should relate to HCAIs and provide practical, applicable information to medical professionals and all facilities caring for patients with communicable diseases worldwide. We are particularly interested in papers that provide unique insight into the challenges of preventing infections in developing countries.

We encourage submissions in the following areas:

  • Antimicrobial stewardship (including antivirals and antifungals)
  • Local hospital surveys and research in clinical infections
  • Local epidemiological and environmental studies in infectious agents
  • Novel infectious agent descriptions, strain characterisation and case reports
  • Novel treatments, including clinical trials
  • Infection prevention and control challenges in developing countries
  • Hospital and community healthcare management and resources
  • Healthcare environments and build design
  • Outbreaks – surveillance, management and learning points
  • Research methodology and ethical considerations
  • Vaccines
  • IPC outreach and educational activities
  • Public health interventions in infection
  • Clinical diagnosis of infectious disease

Accessibility and open access

IPIP aims to be an accessible resource for all researchers within the field of IPC, including young researchers and those from low income countries. Gold open access publication ensures the latest research is available to the widest possible audience. Our open access fees will be extremely competitive to ensure that publication in IPIP is inclusive for all authors. We will also offer an attractive discount on article processing fees for members of the Healthcare Infection Society. Our fees are as follows:

  • USD 516/Euro 456 for regular articles, typically of up to 3 pages in length (regular articles include all of the following: survey articles, case reports and series, clinical audits/service improvements, clinical trials) for individual members of the Society (“Members”) and USD645/Euro 570 per regular article for non-Members, accepted during 2019 and 2020;
  • USD 1238/Euro 1095 for review articles, typically of 6 pages or more in length, for Members and USD 1548/Euro 1368 for non-Members, accepted during 2019 and 2020.

IPIP will initially be under the stewardship of Dr. Jim Gray, in conjunction with his role as Editor in Chief for the Journal of Hospital Infection, to ensure a co-ordinated launch. The journal will be inviting submissions from later this year and will commence publishing in early 2019. Follow us at @IPIP_Open for updates on the launch.
