Register of Interest

Purpose of the Register

The Healthcare Infection Society intends that the following provisions for declarations of interests and withdrawal from meetings will prevent individuals from being influenced, or appearing to be influenced, by their private interests in the execution of their duties on behalf of the Society. Refer to the HIS Conflict of Interest Policy.

Who is Required to Declare Interests?

Those required to declare interests include:

  • Trustees
  • Chairs of HIS Committees

What Interest(s) must be declared?

All personal or business interests that may, or may be perceived to, influence their judgement should be declared. Such interests may include, but will not be limited to, involvement in the health care services, academic and research institutions and the pharmaceutical and other related industries. This register of interests shall also be used to record all gifts of a value over £50 received.

If you are not sure what to declare, or whether/when your declaration needs to be updated, please err on the side of caution. If you would like to discuss this issue, please contact the Secretary or Chief Executive for confidential guidance.

Individuals must also declare their relevant interests in issues to be discussed at formal meetings of Council, and other committee and working party meetings, and Chairmen must request members of committees and working parties to do likewise.

You will be invited to update information on an annual basis, but should inform the Chief Executive before then if there are significant changes.

What Happens to this Information?

A register will be maintained at the HIS Headquarters,162 King's Cross Road,LondonWC1X 9DH.  The register will be made accessible to members of HIS on request.
