Call for Expressions of Interest: GENOTIPE Special Interest Group Core Steering Committee

Deadline for applications: 20 November 2026

We are inviting expressions of interest from Healthcare Infection Society members who would like to help shape the work of the new HIS Genomics to Optimise Infection Prevention (GENOTIPE)

GENOTIPE has been established to bring together a multidisciplinary community interested in translating pathogen genomics into routine healthcare practice to improve infection prevention and control. Our focus is not simply on sequencing technology. We want to understand how pathogen genomics can be used effectively in real healthcare settings, including how genomic information can inform decisions, how services should be designed and delivered, what evidence is needed to demonstrate impact and value, and how we ensure implementation is equitable, sustainable and relevant to patients and communities.

We are therefore keen to build a Steering Committee with a broad range of perspectives and experience.

You do not need to be a pathogen genomics expert to apply.

We particularly welcome applications from professionals across a range of disciplines, including infection prevention and control, microbiology, infectious diseases, healthcare science, public health, bioinformatics, data science, epidemiology, implementation and behavioural science, health economics, digital health, education and training, policy, and healthcare delivery. Committee members will have the opportunity to shape the future direction of the network by leading priority areas aligned with their expertise, interests and capacity, such as Research and Evaluation, Clinical Implementation, Genomics and Data, Education and Workforce, Engagement and Community, and Policy and Partnerships.

We encourage applications from colleagues at all career stages.

What will Core Steering Committee members do?

Steering Committee members will help shape the priorities and programme of work for GENOTIPE.

This is intended to be an active working group. Members will be expected to:

  • contribute to discussions about the strategic direction and priorities of the SIG

  • help identify important gaps in evidence, practice and implementation

  • contribute to GENOTIPE projects, workshops, outputs and other activities

  • represent the interests and perspectives of the wider GENOTIPE community

  • engage with relevant partners and professional communities

  • attend and contribute to Steering Committee meetings and work between meetings

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be current members of HIS. Apply for membership here if you have not yet done this.

  • We welcome applicants from all professional backgrounds and career stages who have an interest in pathogen genomics and its translation into infection prevention and healthcare practice.
