Story so far
BEIPI was created in response to the urgent need to address infection risks through better hospital design. Following a successful interdisciplinary workshop hosted by HIS in March 2025, the initiative was formed to unite healthcare, design and construction professionals in developing practical solutions to reduce healthcare-associated infections. The first phase of this work culminated in the release of The Silent Pandemic report, launched at HISCON 2025, which outlined key recommendations and sets the foundation for the initiative’s future direction.
Most recently BEIPI launched its Prospectus ‘Building Infection Prevention into Hospital Design’, a publication designed to influence national policy and drive best practice across healthcare estates. This publication was released at the Healthcare Estates Conference October 2025.
The next phase will see BEIPI host a policy workshop on 22 January 2026 to forge relationships and begin problem-solving with policymakers representing the DHSC and NHP. This will set the agenda to allow further work with policymakers to develop new protocols and tools to build infection prevention into our hospitals from day one.
