About IPC Training Days
The IPC Training Days programme provides education for trainees and other healthcare professionals working in the field of medical microbiology, medical virology, infectious diseases, and other areas of infection control.
The structured rolling programme comprises a series of nine independent, one-day training sessions.
Learning Outcomes
After attending this session covering 'Antimicrobial resistance and stewardship' delegates will be able to:
- Describe antimicrobial stewardship strategies and how this aligns with effective therapy
- Explain the optimisation of antimicrobial therapy eg. therapeutic drug monitoring
- Outline treatment strategies for infections caused by carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) and approaches to antimicrobial stewardship.
- Understand risk factors for resistance and the role of whole genome sequencing and diagnostic stewardship for tuberculosis.
- Describe the monitoring of antimicrobial use in hospitals and how this links with the development of resistance
- Explain current and emerging antifungal resistance threats, and the IPC implications
HIS members who attend 7 (distinct) of the 9 IPC Training Days in the rolling programme and complete the HIS/UKHSA Foundation Course in Infection Prevention and Control are eligible to apply for the Foundation Certificate in IPC.
