Call for Expressions of Interest: HIS Guidelines Committee Membership

Deadline for applications: - 31 July 2026

We are inviting expressions of interest from members who wish to contribute to the work of the HIS Guidelines Committee. Details of the committee and its terms of reference can be found on the HIS website.

The Guidelines Committee oversees the commissioning, development and publication (including online dissemination) of clinical guidelines and guidance related to infection prevention and clinical microbiology.

The aim of guidelines and guidance produced by the committee is to enhance and improve clinical practice, and support professional colleagues and patients, through the development and publication of timely, accurate, evidence-based information.

We have recently revised the membership of the committee and have 4 new posts. We are seeking applications from HIS members and from members of the public who may wish to be a lay member of the committee, methodologists, behavioural scientists and implementation scientists. We encourage applications from individuals at all stages of their career, across all professional backgrounds involved in infection prevention.

Membership is voluntary, with reasonable travel expenses paid. Most of the committee meetings are online. On average meetings are between 60-90 minutes long. Members who in addition to committee membership, undertake to be part of a guideline working group, may be eligible to accrue CPD points, depending on level of participation. The Committee meets every 2-3 months, with a break over the summer months. Members are expected to attend 75% of the meetings.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be current members of HIS. Apply for membership here if you have not yet done this.
  • We encourage applications from individuals at all career stages, across all professional backgrounds involved in infection prevention and control.
