Engineering aspects of infection control

This course thoroughly explores those aspects of infection prevention and control where engineering criteria are a vital component. It includes sessions on specialist ventilation such as that of operating theatres, thermal (surgical instrument) and chemical (endoscope) washer disinfectors, steam sterilisers, healthcare laundry and other aspects of hospital hygiene and decontamination. These are supplemented by discussion sessions, which put the engineering concepts into the context of practical infection control.

Learning objectives:

Delegates will learn to assess areas where engineering controls have a significant impact on preventing infection transmission in healthcare. You will gain an understanding of relevant processes as they relate to infection prevention, as well as an ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with engineers and Estates staff.
Who should attend: The course content is designed to meet the needs of Consultant Medical Microbiologists, Trainee Medical Microbiologists about to take Consultant roles, senior Infection Prevention & Control Nurses and others with practical aspects of infection prevention as their role.

This course has been accredited with 30 RCPath CPD credits.  

Delegate fee covers all tuition, 5 nights’ accommodation (including Sunday) and all meals Monday to Friday.

Terms and conditions of booking

1. All applications to register are subject to availability and you making full payment.

2. We welcome substitutes for your place if you are not able to attend provided we have reasonable notice of a delegate name change and payment has been received in full.

3. A deposit of £100 reserves your place but is not a guarantee if your course fee is not paid in full by the deadline given.

4. The full delegate fee is £1,845 for non-members.

5. HIS members’ discounted rate is £1,495. You can join as a HIS member at any time prior to applying for the course.

6. The outstanding balance for your delegate fee is payable by 9 July 2019. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that full payment by a third party (e.g. your employer) reaches HIS by the deadline given. We reserve the right to cancel your place at any time if payment is not made.

Cancellation or non attendance

Delegates wishing to transfer their place onto a future course may only do so if the booked course start date is a least 2 months away. In the case of cancellation the £100 deposit will not be refunded.  In the case of a transfer to a future course, an administration fee of £50 will be charged (delegates may only transfer once).

Cancellations or transfers will be accepted in writing by email to admin@his.org.uk up to 2 months prior to the course.

No refunds or course transfers will be permitted less than 2 months before the course start date.

Changes to the course and cancellations

1. We reserve the right to change the advertised course content, timing and location if it is necessary. If there are significant variances, we will either offer you the choice to attend the course as amended or a credit to attend a future course.

2. We shall not be liable for any expenses you incur (travel, accommodation) if we have to cancel the course at late notice due to an event outside our control.

Certificate of attendance

Certificates of attendance will be provided at the end of the course to delegates who attend and participate in all 5 days.
